About the LewisGale Salem Half Marathon, Virginia's Blue Ridge 8K & G&H Contracting Kids Run

The City of Salem is known as "Virginia's Championship City", where we have hosted NCAA National Championships & other tournaments. In 2016, we decided to branch out and bring that "Championship" mentality to running!

To be able to host this event, we recruited Odyssey Adventure Racing – The best race management experts in Southwestern Virginia. We say they are the best because they help put on the Blue Ridge Marathon, which is nicknamed as the "World's Toughest Marathon".

The Salem Half Marathon is a new race to the Roanoke Valley and Salem whose mission is to encourage people to get outside and get physically active. This race will start and finish on Main Street, take runners through Salem neighborhoods, Roanoke College and the Roanoke River Greenway.

As the inaugural race, we will make sure that this is a race you will want to come back and do year after year. We will continue to pursue excellence and make this race an event that people mark on their calendar.

Salem Food Pantry

The City of Salem Parks & Recreation and Odyssey Adventure Racing are proudly to partner with the Salem Food Pantry as the official charity of the inaugural race.  As the official charity, part of the proceeds will go to benefit their organization in order to help feed the community.  We will, also, have a truck that will be accepting donations.

Please feel free to bring a canned item for the Salem Food Pantry & help us make a difference in the community with our race.
